Sharyn Kitchener

Sharyn Kitchener started working in the travel industry in 1983 and has never looked back. From a young age, her passion for travel was clear and it was one she just had to share. Starting as a Junior Consultant at one of Sydney’s leading travel agencies, Sharyn has gone above and beyond to be one of the most well known figures in travel while developing her deep knowledge of the industry and holiday destinations. During her 30-year career Sharyn has worked at some of Australia’s most prestigious travel organisations. Living for five years in Asia allowed Sharyn to manage and escort several tours to Hong Kong, Korea, Hawaii and Hamilton Island, taking groups of over 100 people on each occasion.

Sharyn is proud to have been an inaugural member of Young AFTA (Australian Federation of Travel Agents) and has been named Best Travel Consultant in New South Wales several times at the annual AFTA awards.

Sharyn’s favourite destinations include Italy, Vietnam and Turkey and she considers Rafting down the ‘Rio Grande’ in Jamaica with a group of Jamaican locals & expats – soaking up the experience and adventure with a little rum punch as one of her most memorable travel moments.

Since taking over Travel Specialists Mosman in 2015, Sharyn is looking forward to growing the business and providing TSM’s clients with an outstanding and personalised holiday that they will be recounting with friends for years to come.

Years in the industry: 43 years

With over 40 years of travel consulting in Mosman I have seen many changes in the products we sell and the way we sell them. The early seventies saw the introduction of cheap and fast airline services to Europe and international travel became accessible to all. Airlines schedules were to be found in phone book size directories which came out monthly and bookings were made by phone or telex. Today the changes in technology make it much easier to access information and services but the challenge is still there to create the right travel experience for each individual client.

Places I love to sell, talk about: Europe, Africa and Asia (particularly Myanmar and Vietnam) are high on the list but I also love selling places closer to home such as Tasmania and New Zealand where there are so many opportunities to experience the natural scenic beauty along with fine food and wine.

In recent years there has been a boom in Cruising holiday options and I enjoy assisting clients in choosing between the grand ocean liners such as Cunard or the smaller luxury lines such as Silverseas and Seabourn. The expansion of expeditionary cruises to remote destinations has also added to the variety of cruising options available.

I also enjoy arranging specialised group travel and get great satisfaction out from arranging regular trips to Asia and the Pacific for teams of medical volunteers who donate their time to provide urgent medical care and ongoing training in countries with limited medical facilities.

Belinda Grist

Over 25 years in the Travel industry managing holidays for families, couples, single travellers and groups.

My favourite destinations are endless. Every time I travel somewhere it is always a new and exciting experience. One of my favourite destinations as been Africa; discovering unbelievable wildlife in remote and unique Zambia including an amazing walking safari; speeding down the Zambezi river amongst all of the local hippos; sleeping in a luxury tent at night when the silence of the evening is broken by the Elephants walking past my tent.

I have travelled extensively throughout the United States, including New York, New Orleans, Memphis, San Francisco, Los Angeles along with South America including Macchu Pichu and travelling on Orient Express to Cusco, visiting Wineries in Chile.

Other favourites include Vietnam, Cambodia, Tahiti, Japan, Hawaii, and of course the lovely Italy and France, Mauritius, Fiji.

Along with many adventures to these destinations one of my more relaxing holidays is cruising. It is amazing how fantastic this can be for a family, a couple or a single traveller. So much variety and so much to do. I recently had the pleasure to travel on a Tauck river cruise from Lyon to Arle, discovering and learning all that is good with Wine, and Artists over the centuries. Such a fantastic and easy way of embracing the local culture.

As an accredited cruise consultant with the Cruise council of Australia, I continually keep up to date with the variety of cruising there is on offer. I've cruised on QE2, Regent Seven Seas Mariner, Paul Gauguin, Crystal Symphony, Captain Cook, and recently inspected Seabourn Odyssey, Silversea, and Serenity also True North, The Orion, Queen Mary 2, and many others... there is something on offer for everyone.

So although not having been everywhere, I love discovering new places and also visiting some regular favourites in between.

I’ve been in this industry for over 25 years now and still have same the travel bug I had from the start. It is so hard to name a favourite destination, but if I had to choose, my favourite city would have to be New York where there is always something going on 24/7 and my favourite resort without a doubt is The Nam Hai in Vietnam-the amazing tranquillity and service at this resort set them apart and they serve one the best breakfasts I have ever enjoyed.

Anyway there are still so many places out there I am itching to visit, so hopefully I can get through them in my next 25 years on the planet.
